Samuel Eto’o scored twice, could have had a hat-trick but for a post, and was the most influential figure on the pitch. Romelu Lukaku contributed to a Burnley equaliser before making amends nine minutes later with a goal of his own to send Everton into half-time with a lead. Eto’o, who was waiting in Paris to sign for Liverpool in August only for Brendan Rodgers to decide that Mario Balotelli was a better option, was at the centre of everything that Everton did well.
