Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale has been named the Football Association of Wales player of the year for 2014.  The 25-year-old has picked up the accolade for the fourth time in five years and has set a new record having overtaken Mark Hughes and John Hartson, who both won the award three times.  After joining Real Madrid last year in a world-record €100 million deal from Tottenham, the winger scored 15 times in 27 La Liga appearances and helped the Spanish club win the Champions League, the Uefa Super Cup and the Copa del Rey.
