MANCHESTER UNITED will offer injured midfielder Michael Carrick a new contract tying him down until 2016.

The 33-year-old damaged ligaments in his ankle back in July, and has yet to feature in a competitive match under new boss Louis Van Gaal.
However, Carrick is back in light training at Carrington and is expected to return to action after the upcoming international break.
The former Tottenham star's current deal is set to expire at the end of the season, but Van Gaal still believes he has a lot to offer United's new-look side and wants him to aid the development of latest midfield anchorman Daley Blind.
According to reports, Carrick is already deep in talks with the club over the proposed extension, and could even put pen-to-paper by the end of next week.
