The former Valencia star played a major role in helping the Catalan giants lift the La Liga title in 2013, but his appearances last season left much to be desired.
New boss Luis Enrique has already made a number of changes to the Barcelona squad, bringing in a number of players over the summer in order to make the team a more cohesive unit.
Wing-back Dani Alves is set to leave in January, with the more defensive-minded Douglas preferred at the back, and Enrique is also looking to replace the attacking Alba with a more disciplined player.
