Turkey 1-2 Czech Republic

Turkey 1-2 Czech Republic: Dockal fires visitors to the top
The visitors sit joint top of Group A after two games thanks to their second win of the campaign, while Fatih Terim's side fall to the foot of the table
Borek Dockal struck the winner as the Czech Republic maintained their unbeaten start to Euro 2016 qualifying with a 2-1 victory over Turkey.  The Sparta Prague midfielder latched onto a low cross from Pavel Kaderabek two minutes before the hour and fired beyond Tolga Zengin from 12 yards to give the visitors a Group A triumph in Istanbul.  Turkey started the match well and moved ahead in the eighth minute through Umut Bulut, but they were unable to turn further possession into goals and were ultimately punished.  Tomas Sivok levelled with a powerful header eight minutes after Bulut's opener, but the Czechs had to wait until the second half for Dockal to seal the win.  With Iceland emerging 3-0 victors in Latvia, the Czech Republic remain second in Group A with maximum points from their two matches, while Turkey are bottom after a second straight defeat.

Saudi Arabia 1-1 Uruguay

Saudi Arabia 1-1 Uruguay: Suarez shines upon return

The forward returned to action with the national team following his ban after biting Giorgio Chiellini and it was his volley which bounced off of Hassan Muath Fallatah and in  Luis Suarez played a leading role on his return to international action as Uruguay drew 1-1 with Saudi Arabia in a friendly on Friday.  The Barcelona man was initially banned from "all football-related activity" following a bite on Italy's Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup in Brazil back in June.  After that sanction was reduced on appeal it was decreed that Suarez could feature in friendly action, and this clash in Jeddah marked his first appearance for the national team since his altercation with Chiellini in Natal.  Suarez had a crucial hand in Uruguay's goal on Friday, thumping a sublime volley which ricocheted off the woodwork and was diverted into his own net by Hassan Muath Fallatah.

Belgium 6-0 Andorra

Belgium 6-0 Andorra: De Bruyne and Mertens bag doubles in record-equalling win
Three goals in either half, including strikes apiece for Divock Origi and Nacer Chadli, eased the hosts to a comfortable triumph over Group B's minnows
Belgium equalled their highest-ever European Championship qualifier victory with a 6-0 annihilation of Andorra on Friday.  Kevin De Bruyne gave the visitors a taste of the battering they were in for when he struck the woodwork in the first minute, beginning a string of attacks which Andorra somehow remained unscathed from.  The Wolfsburg winger turned potential provider in the 15th minute, crossing for forward Divock Origi, who made a light connection eight yards from goal but the ball clipped the post before being forced behind goal to temporary safety.  The wave of Belgian attacks showed no signs of stopping, but Andorra kept clinging on to the clean sheet. Origi smacked the post much harder with his second woodwork-thwarted effort five minutes later, again from a De Bruyne ball from the left wing.  Fewer than sixty seconds had passed before it took a goalline clearance from Andorra's David Maneiro to keep the visitors level. Dries Merten's dribbled his way into the box from the left flank and saw his deflected, dinked ball ricochet off an opposition body towards the net.

Italy 2-1 Azerbaijan

Italy 2-1 Azerbaijan: Chiellini rescues late win following own-goal

Giorgio Chilellini went from hero to zero then back to hero again as Italy survived late drama to beat Euro 2016 qualification Group H minnows Azerbaijan 2-1 on Friday.  Much of the pre-match discussion had centered on Italy's striking options, with coach Antonio Conte calling up Graziano Pelle at Mario Balotelli's expense for the Euro 2016 qualifying Group H clash at the Stadio Renzo Barbera in Palermo.  However, Chiellini stole the show for both positive and negative reasons, having initially opened the scoring late in the first half when he headed in Andrea Pirlo's corner.   Chiellini made an altogether more unwanted contribution when he mistakenly bundled the ball into his own net from a corner with 13 minutes remaining - the first goal conceded by Italy under Conte's tenure.  However, the 30-year-old made amends with what proved to be the winner as he powered a header past Kamran Agayev with eight minutes left on the clock.

Wales 0-0 Bosnia

Wales 0-0 Bosnia-Herzegovina: Coleman's men maintain unbeaten start

Gareth Bale drew a rare blank for Wales as Bosnia-Herzegovina battled hard for a goalless draw at Cardiff City Stadium in Euro 2016 qualifying.  The flying winger had scored 11 times in his last 16 international matches and went into Friday's game having netted five goals and provided as many assists for Real Madrid this term.  However, Everton defender Muhamed Besic was one of the Bosnia players who kept him under wraps and Wales were grateful for a sterling display by Wayne Hennessey at the other end to claim a point.  Miralem Pjanic, Vedad Ibisevic and Haris Medunjanin all made the Crystal Palace goalkeeper work hard, but he held firm under pressure for a well-deserved clean sheet.  Bale and skipper Ashley Williams did have late chances to snatch it for Wales, but overall the hosts will be satisfied with the result.  Chris Coleman's side survived a scare when prevailing 2-1 at Andorra in their opening Group B match - Bale on target twice late on last month - and this result keeps them in the hunt to qualify for their first major tournament since 1958 ahead of Monday's home clash with Cyprus.  Bosnia suffered a surprise reverse against Cyprus in front of their own supporters last month and may have wanted more from Friday's clash before facing a tough test against Belgium next.  Midfield duo Aaron Ramsey and Joe Allen were the major absentees for Wales, with Emyr Huws pulling out this week to make it 10 injury victims in total.  Bosnia, meanwhile, had problems at the back and were forced to select an inexperienced centre-half pairing of Anel Hadzic and Toni Sunjic.   Bale had an early chance to strike but failed to connect with a fine near-post cross from Chris Gunter, while Hennessey had to be alert to keep out a deflected Pjanic strike.  Gunter blasted a far-post volley over after a neat cross from fellow wing-back Neil Taylor and Pjanic fired another long-range effort just wide.  Wales were fortunate that Ibisevic's powerful header flew straight at Hennessey and Edin Dzeko just failed to get on the end of a superb Pjanic pass, but there were no goals in a fairly even first half.  The home fans were relieved to see Bale shake off a back problem and return for the second period, but it was Hennessey who was called into action soon after the break when blocking a close-range Medunjanin shot.  Medunjanin was on target again after 55 minutes, this time from the edge of the area, only for Hennessey to get down well and deny him once more before Pjanic was narrowly wide with a curling free-kick.  Tempers flared when James Chester lunged in with a clumsy challenge on Besic, with team captains Williams and Dzeko also booked after an ensuing melee.  Wales then had a great chance to go ahead after 78 minutes when Bale curled in a wicked free-kick cross and an unmarked Williams was left with his head in his hands after nodding over from eight yards out.  Hennessey was soon the hero again, though, when diving at full stretch to save a well-struck Pjanic free-kick, while Bale tested Asmir Begovic as the action swept from end to end.  Bale suddenly burst into life in stoppage time with a fiercely struck shot that Begovic only just got his fingertips to, but the match ended all square.

Netherlands 3-1 Kazakhstan

Netherlands 3-1 Kazakhstan: Oranje leave it late against minnows
Netherlands had to wait until the dying minutes to get their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign back on track with a 3-1 win over Kazakhstan in Amsterdam on Friday.  The Dutch had started Group A with a 2-1 defeat to the Czech Republic last month and coach Guus Hiddink expressed a desire to see his side produce a victory with a performance to match in the build-up to this fixture.  However, Renat Abdulin's headed goal in the 17th minute threatened to subject the hosts to a humiliating defeat.  Netherlands tried their utmost to find a leveller, but it did not look to be their night until Klaas-Jan Huntelaar got his head to an Ibrahim Afellay cross in the 62nd minute.  Baurzhan Dzholchiev saw red for a reckless challenge soon after, and Hiddink's men eventually made their visitors pay through the influential Afellay, who found the net in the 82nd minute on his first international appearance since November 2012.  Robin van Persie completed the scoring in the closing stages from the penalty spot after being brought down by Dmitri Shomko.  The late effort helped extend Netherlands' run of consecutive victories in home qualifiers to 18.

Warriors 120-105 Lakers

2014-10-9 Kobe Bryant
Klay Thompson scored 25 points and backcourt-mate Stephen Curry added 20, leading the Golden State Warriors to a 120-105 preseason victory over the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday night.  Kobe Bryant, playing his first game at Staples Center since Dec. 10, 2013, scored 15 points in 23 minutes before sitting out the fourth quarter. The two-time scoring champion appeared in only six games last season because of a ruptured Achilles tear and a fracture in his left knee.  Coach Byron Scott rested 40-year-old point guard Steve Nash. The two-time MVP was limited to 15 games last season due to nerve-root irritation in his left leg. Newcomer Jeremy Lin started in Nash's place, finishing with 14 points and four assists. Carlos Boozer had a team-high 16 points.

Slovakia 2-1 Spain

Slovakia 2-1 Spain: Stoch and Kucka give hosts a shock win

Miroslav Stoch's dramatic late winner condemned Spain to a first qualifying loss in eight years as Slovakia earned a shock 2-1 victory.  Reigning European champions Spain had not lost a qualification game since a 2-0 reverse in Sweden back in October 2006, but Stoch's 87th minute header gave Jan Kozak's side all three points in Thursday's Euro 2016 qualifier in Zilina.   Iker Casillas' blunder had allowed Juraj Kucka to put Slovakia 1-0 up at the break, but substitute Paco Alcacer appeared to have spared his captain's blushes with an equaliser eight minutes from time.  However, there was to be one last twist when Stoch nodded home Marek Hamsik's excellent delivery at the back post to give Slovakia a memorable win.   Casillas' latest error, which saw him allow Kucka's long-range strike to beat him straight down the middle, is likely to increase the pressure on Spain boss Vicente del Bosque to drop the Real Madrid man in favour of in-form Manchester United stopper David de Gea.   Diego Costa was named in Spain's starting XI despite fears over his ability to play due to a persistent hamstring injury, but he cut an isolated figure in the early stages and Casillas was forced into a stunning one-handed save to deny Robert Mak after 11 minutes.   At the other end Cesc Fabregas and Costa, who have combined so effectively for Chelsea this season, created Spain's first clear-cut effort when the latter glanced a header wide from the former's cross.  And that miss was punished in the 17th minute when Slovakia took the lead.  Vladimir Weiss laid a short free-kick to Kucka, whose thunderous 30-yard strike wrong-footed Casillas despite going straight down the middle.  Spain finished the half strongly and Andres Iniesta forced a smart stop from the outstanding Matus Kozacik, before the Slovakia keeper made a superb double save to deny Costa and Sergio Busquets.   The visitors showed far more urgency after the break and Fabregas' firm effort produced another top save from Kozacik after good build-up play by Busquests and Juanfran.  Costa too seemed livelier, turning sharply in the area and firing a shot low towards to the bottom left-hand corner, but Kozacik was once more up to the task.  But he was finally beaten in the 82nd minute when Alcacer - who came off the bench to replace David Silva - controlled Jordi Alba's delivery and slotted home his second goal in three senior international appearances.   However, just as Spain thought they had done enough to preserve their long unbeaten streak in qualifiers, Stoch converted Hamsik's inch-perfect delivery to send the home fans into delirium.

England 5 - 0 San Marino

There was never any question whether Roy Hodgson's side would win this European Championship qualifier, just a case of how many they would score.  San Marino are ranked 208th in the world - joint bottom alongside Bhutan - and did well to restrict England to just a 5-0 win in the Group E clash at Wembley.  The country with a population of 32,576 - roughly the same as Fleet, Coalville and Leighton Buzzard - held firm until the 24th minute, when Phil Jagielka nodded home after a comical defensive miscommunication.  San Marino goalkeeper Aldo Simoncini then did well to keep the scoreline down, but was unable to stop Wayne Rooney's fiercely-struck penalty as half-time approached.  Danny Welbeck turned home soon after the restart and, having seen Adam Lallana wrongly denied a fluky first England goal, substitute Andros Townsend lashed home from the edge of the box.  Alessandro Della Valle completed the scoring by turning past his own goalkeeper to the delight of the 55,990 fans inside Wembley - the lowest attendance for a competitive England fixture since the stadium opened in 2007.  Rooney and Jack Wilshere were denied as England continued to pepper the San Marino goal, which Andros Townsend found in the 72nd minute.

Simone Zaza : Balotelli is no threat

Italy forward Simone Zaza has stressed that he does not see Mario Balotelli as a threat to his place in the national team.  Zaza made his Italy debut in Antonio Conte's first match in charge, a 2-0 friendly win against Netherlands in September, and the Sassuolo man then netted against Norway in Italy's opening Euro 2016 qualifier.  His partnership with Ciro Immobile has looked exciting and at the moment, the pair are keeping Balotelli out of the team and squad.  However, Zaza does not view the Liverpool man as a rival and said he would like to get know the striker.  "I don't consider him a danger," Zaza told reporters.  "As I've always said, Mario Balotelli is one of my favourite strikers around.  "I think that everyone knows about his qualities and what he can bring to any squad.  "I think that Mario could be a part of any national team and I don't think he would cast a shadow on me.  "I never had the chance to know him personally - I'd cherish such an opportunity, absolutely."  Zaza's next chance to impress for Italy will come in the upcoming Euro 2016 qualifiers against Azerbaijanand Malta.

I thought it was an incredible decision by him, after he'd been such a hero at Arsenal."I met him at his house in Hampstead and he had no fear about what people would think or what reception he would get. He had enough confidence in his ability to just brush it away."I remember talking to Daniel Levy, our chairman, about him. Agent:Fabio Borini happy at Liverpool,Liverpool forward Fabio Borini's agent claims the player is happy at Anfield and is not looking to find another club.

The 23-year-old Italian turned down moves to Sunderland, where he spent last season on loan, and QPR in the summer despite being told his first-team chances with the Reds would be limited.  Borini has made just one start and two substitute appearances - one of which came in the Champions League against Ludogorets – so far this term, but his agent Marco de Marchi insists there are no plans to look at moving him on.  "At this moment I am certainly not going to look for another club, as the boy is happy to remain at Liverpool," he said.  "Let's not forget he left a journey he already started at Roma in order to come to England.  "He has managed to find some space playing in the Champions League and starting in the Premier League. Things are progressing as expected."  Borini continues to be linked with other clubs, including a number back in his homeland, but De Marchi says there is nothing in the pipeline.  "Borini is a top-level player, so consequently he has a contract with Liverpool and any club interested knows how to approach them," he said.  "Liverpool have no intention of loaning him out, as they already proved in August.  "We know that and so do all the clubs who came looking for him in the last transfer session.  "The situation is exactly the same as it was in September, in the sense that he is very happy to be part of this important team."

Jozy Altidore:I will leave Sunderland in the January transfer window

Jozy Altidore says he will look to leave Sunderland in the January transfer window if he fails to secure regular first-team football.  The 24-year-old has made only four substitute appearances in the Premier League this season but started in both of the club’s League Cup fixtures and scored in the 2-1 defeat at home to Stoke City in September.  Altidore insists a priority is to remain part of the United States national team and believes that he needs to be given more minutes by Gus Poyet so that he is not overlooked by his country.  "I thought I've done everything I could this season to come in fit, and get as fit as possible with the injury, and try and make an impact when I played," Altidore told reporters.  "[The next] four years, I want to be part of the national team. Jurgen [Klinsmann] makes his messages very clear, and nobody is different.  "If it doesn't turn around, in January then I'll be looking to start elsewhere, and make sure I'm in his plans going forward."

I am done with Ike Uche says Keshi

Keshi has accused Uche of turning down his invitation

The Nigeria coach has accused the Villareal man of turning down the opportunity to play for his country and would never be invited again  Nigeria interim coach Stephen Keshi has told journalists to stop asking the reason for the absence of striker Ikechukwu Uche from his team as he disclosed that the Villareal man turned down an opportunity to return last month.  Keshi said that he would never beg Uche to play for the Super Eagles in a very comprehensive explanation regarding the shut out of the player at a media parley on Wednesday. Uche had been ignored since the end of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations which Nigeria won.  With his top form in Spain, he had been expected to make the squad to the World Cup but was again overlooked while Keshi took along strikers in poorer form. The issue of Uche's recall came up last month when Keshi announced his team to take on Congo and South Africa without the Yellow Submarine man, who took to Twitter to deny asking to be begged to play for his country.  Today, Keshi opened up on the issue extensively.  “I don’t want to talk about the issue of Ikechukwu Uche again and I don’t want anybody to ask me about him again,” Keshi said while responding to a journalist’s question.  “Before [last month’s] game against Congo, I did the list. I didn’t even want to do the list because I never knew I would come back to handle the team. I told them I am not the coach that [the NFF] should do the list but they said no, I should please do the list.  “I did the list and Ikechukwu Uche’s name was on the 25 man list I did. He (Ike Uche) didn’t even know about it because I did not tell him. Uche then called me four days later and said “Coach how are you? and I said boy it is good to hear your voice.” We just spoke like brothers and that was it.  “I then told [Team] Secretary, Dayo Enebi, to ask if the players have South African visas and the ones that don’t have he should take their passports ahead of time to process their visas.  “He then asked Ikechukwu Uche and Uche said why is he asking him and why was he asking for his international passport.  “I hate to speak without Uche not being here or if you want to call him put him on speaker to know who is telling lies or not. And please nobody should ask me about Uche again.  “Uche said he needs somebody to talk to him about something they said about him as being a bad kid and they said he did something wrong.  “Then I said okay [Dayo Enebi] take his name out. I am not going to beg Uche and I am not going to tell Daniel [Amokachi] to beg Uche, for what?  “We have played for this country for over 20 years and nobody ever begged us to play for the country. We are the ones always begging to play.  "So please let this be the end today. Don’t ask me about Uche. We have Obafemi Martins and others (doing well) and nobody is making fuss about not being invited.  “What is wrong with him? Why do people want to tear this team apart,” Keshi queried.  The Super Eagles are without the injured pair of Victor Moses and Michael Babatunde as they head to Khartoum. Nigeria face a must-win pair of matches against Sudan if they hope to qualify to defend their African title in Morocco next year.  The fate of Keshi as coach of the national team depends on the qualifiers with the newly elected NFF executive board expected to deliberate on offering him a permanent contract soon

The Denver Nuggets forward has agreed to a four-year, $50 million contract extension

High-flying Kenneth Faried received quite a raise for elevating his game last season. The Denver Nuggets forward has agreed to a four-year, $50 million contract extension, a person with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press. The person spoke Tuesday night on condition of anonymity because the team has yet to announce the deal. Denver had until Oct. 31 to negotiate a new contract for Faried or he would have become a restricted free agent next summer. Faried averaged a career-high 13.7 points last season, and he also grabbed 8.6 rebounds per game. Because of his recent improvement, all eyes will be on him this year. That's why Nuggets coach Brian Shaw said that in order for Faried to take his game to even loftier heights, he may have to slightly alter the way he plays. Shaw believes teams are going to show Faried as much respect as they do, say, point guard Ty Lawson or newly acquired guard Arron Afflalo. "He will be a point of emphasis for other teams to game plan against, whereas before maybe he wasn't," Shaw said Tuesday after the team met for a film session following a preseason loss to the Los Angeles Lakers the night before in San Diego. "It's what every player goes through that reaches that level. "Star players, once they have an effective season, the next season, teams start double-teaming them and game-planning specifically for the strengths you bring to the floor. He has to learn how to negotiate through that." Yahoo Sports and The Denver Post were the first to report the details of the agreement. The player nicknamed "Manimal" received quite a confidence boost suiting up for Team USA this summer and helping it capture a gold medal at the Basketball World Cup. He was even asked by coach Mike Krzyzewski to be one of the leaders on the American team, a role he's hoping to bring to the Nuggets this season. Faried was a first-round pick of the Nuggets in 2011 after becoming the modern-day career rebounding leader at Morehead State, surpassing the mark Tim Duncan set at Wake Forest. Faried has long maintained he could be an impact player in the league, even if he doesn't possess one of the most polished jumpers. Instead, he relies on hustle, hard work and a knack for being in the right spot. "I've been believing my whole life I could be a star - a superstar in this league," Faried said recently. "I don't believe I take a back seat to nobody." The 6-foot-8 Faried got off to a sluggish start in the exhibition loss to the Lakers, scoring six points and grabbing one rebound. "Only got one rebound," Shaw said. "He's going to have to do better in that area." Shaw and Faried reached an agreement last season, one that made the already speedy Nuggets even faster: Go after a defensive rebound as vigorously as he did on the offensive glass and Faried could push the ball up the court. "I gave him the freedom to use that raw energy and athleticism to get our break going," Shaw said. "I envision that in this coming season."

DeMar DeRozan:my best is yet to come

While working on his game this summer, Raptors guard DeMar DeRozan went back to the basics. Eager to improve his left-handed dribbling and ability to finish plays, DeRozan ate with his weaker left hand, used it to pick up items around the house, and even sat down regularly to write out the alphabet with his infant daughter. "I was doing it every day in the summer," DeRozan said. "It looked like my daughter's writing. That gave me something to do and I could show her her ABCs." Not that his penmanship is better than 17-month-old Diar. "We're neck and neck right now," DeRozan joked. But like his game, it's a work in progress. DeRozan, a first-time all-star last season who also played for the USA's gold medal-winning team at September's World Cup, probably won't rest until he can crank out a letter-perfect alphabet as easily as he drops in a left-handed layup. After posting career highs of 22.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.0 assists for Toronto's first playoff team in six seasons, he isn't about to rest on his laurels. "I'm never going to get comfortable with the accomplishments I've made," said the 6-foot-7 DeRozan, who the Raptors drafted out of USC. "There's always going to be something." Besides trying to become ambidextrous, DeRozan has also worked to develop his voice, establishing himself as a leader in Toronto's locker room. "He's getting older, he's getting mature," point guard Kyle Lowry said. "He's understanding what he has to do and he knows he's a franchise player." Through most of his first three years on the job, Raptors coach Dwane Casey waited patiently for DeRozan to take on the role of team leader. "I knew it was going to happen, I just didn't know when," Casey said. "He was such a quiet kid." Things changed last December when the Raptors traded Rudy Gay to Sacramento, creating an opening for DeRozan. "After the trade, he just took off," Casey said. "He made huge strides and said `Hey look, I'm putting this team on my back and we're going with it.' That was a big step. Once he made the all-star team, I thought he took another big step toward maturity, toward being a leader." Casey asked DeRozan to address his Raptors teammates before Tuesday's opening workout, and was delighted with the message. "He spoke up and said `Let's have a good practice. This is where we start creating good defensive habits and it starts now, not next week or after the first game.' That was huge," Casey said. Just as huge for DeRozan's development was his inclusion on the USA squad that brought home gold from this year's World Cup in Spain. Playing in a reserve role on the star-studded roster gave DeRozan a double dose of hunger and humility. "A lot of guys in my position get comfortable being a starter," DeRozan said. "Sometimes you have to get uncomfortable to realize what you could work at or what you could get better at. Sometimes it may not be basketball, it could be something mental, to help push you over the edge. That's something I definitely took from it." When Raptors general manager Masai Ujiri met with DeRozan after the World Cup, the first thing DeRozan wanted to talk about was his newfound respect for the challenges faced by bench players. "He treats them great anyway, but he said he has more respect and would treat them with more respect because of what they have to do night in and night out when they're called upon," Ujiri said Monday. "I thought that was great maturity on his part." Perhaps the best part of the international experience was the chance to swap secrets and strategies with the cream of the NBA. DeRozan found plenty to talk about with Cleveland guard Kyrie Irving, comparing notes on how to get through traffic in the paint and finish at the rim. "You kind of take some and give some with each person there," DeRozan said. "I think it's great."

Ferguson: Kagawa right to leave United for Dortmund

Alex Ferguson has insisted that he was "happy" with Shinji Kagawa during their time
together at Manchester United but nonetheless backed the attacking midfielder's
decision to return to Borussia Dortmund .
The Scot signed the Japan international from BVB in the summer of 2012 and,
despite showing flashes of his ability during his first year at Old Trafford, Kagawa
became a bit-part player last season under Ferguson's successor, David Moyes,
before deciding to re-join BVB in August.
Ferguson says that he never lost faith in Kagawa's ability to cut it in the Premier
League but believes that the writing was on the wall for the 25-year-old the moment
United brought in Juan Mata from Chelsea in January.
"I was very happy with Shinji," Ferguson told Bild. "He had settled in well when I
was coach, and I had the impression he felt comfortable.
"But every coach has his own philosophy. When Moyes bought Juan Mata, Kagawa
sensed he wasn't first-choice anymore and somehow resigned a bit.
"So, I think BVB and Kagawa did the right thing. Shinji's back where he feels best.
And he has a coach in Jurgen Klopp who gives him the confidence he needs."
Kagawa has looked at home at Signal Iduna Park in recent weeks, drawing high
praise for his performance in the Champions League rout of Anderlecht last week.

Markovic: I need more time:The Serbia international has yet to fire for the Reds since his €25 million summer move but believes that his acclimatisation is progressing slowly but surely

Liverpool winger Lazar Markovic is adamant that fans have yet to see his true potential in the Premier League.  The Serbia international arrived at Anfield in a €25 million deal from Primeira Liga champions Benfica this summer after impressing in his one season in Portugal.  Markovic has made just two Premier League starts since moving to Merseyside, with Reds boss Brendan Rodgers choosing to bed the 20-year-old in slowly.  The former Partizan man has no complaints, though, and is keen to fully acclimatise to English football, telling Mondo: "You know how things go in football. I'm getting there and adjusting well.  "It will take a little more time but, all in all, I feel okay.  "I feel great there and everybody has been great with me. I could not wish for more. I'm happy and that is the most important thing.  "My team-mate is the legendary Steven Gerrard, the fans love me and Anfield is great but, as I said, I just need a little bit more time."

BIG BLOW FOR ARSENAL:Mesut Ozil out for three months

Arsenal star Ozil out for three months with knee injury

Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has been ruled out of action for three months with a knee injury, the Germany national team have announced.  German national team medical staff predict the 25-year-old will be unavailable for "10-12 weeks" due to a ligament tear in his left knee, although Arsenal have since released a statement insisting that the club will make further assessments and that "it is too early to say how long Ozil may be out of action".  Ozil, who has played eight games for the Gunners in all competitions this season, will not undergo surgery for the problem.  He sat out the national side's training session on Wednesday to go for a scan, the results of which have now emerged.

kaka called for friendlies

Can Kaka Still Make a Telling Difference for Dunga and Brazil?

The 32-year-old has been called up for next week's friendlies against Argentina and Japan in the place of Cruzeiro's Ricardo Goulart. It is his first since March 2013.  In one aspect, it is an encouraging and relieving sign that the former AC Milan and Real Madrid star is finding his form.  The move could well prove to be a shrewd one from the Brazil coach. This is a critical time for international football's most successful nation.  Pressure is on this group like never before. A recovery is demanded and desperately needed after the FIFA World Cup, and the spotlight is shining bright on those involved in the rebuilding process.

Cech:I will leave Stamford Bridge if the situation does not change:The 32-year-old is unhappy with his role as second-choice goalkeeper behind Thibaut Courtois

Petr Cech has indicated that he will leave Chelsea if he remains the club’s second-choice goalkeeper.  The 32-year-old has featured only twice this season, with Jose Mourinho preferring Thibaut Courtois in both the Premier League and Champions League.  Cech had been Chelsea’s first-choice goalkeeper for 10 seasons since his arrival from Rennes in 2004 and insists he is not prepared to stay on the bench at Stamford Bridge this term.  "I have not spoken to anyone, but I think they know me well enough at the club to know that the situation is definitely not the way I would imagine," Cech told Czech radio.  "With the Euros [in 2016] and the national team in mind, there is no time for me to sit on the bench and not to play.  "If the situation will not start to improve for me, then I will want to solve it."

When LeBron James re-signed with Cleveland this summer it was believed Allen might join him. However, Tanner spoke with Allen on Tuesday and said "Ray's position has not changed. Uefa Ban FIGC chief Carlo Tavecchio for six months

The 71-year-old has also been ordered to hold an event to raise awareness of racism in Italy as a result of his controversial comments earlier this year  Italian Football Federation (FIGC) president Carlo Tavecchio has been banned from holding a position as a Uefa official for six months following the racism storm earlier this year.  Tavecchio caused uproar when he referred to young African players in Italy as "banana eaters" when outlining his intention to limit the influx of non-EU foreigners into Serie A academies.  The 71-year-old still won the race to succeed Giancarlo Abete as head of the FIGC during the summer but, despite his ensuing apology, Fifa demanded an investigation into the affair.  Uefa's Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body has now confirmed Tavecchio will be ineligible to serve within European football's governing body for a period of six months as a result of their investigation, while he has also been banned from attending the Uefa congress in March next year.  Uefa has also ordered Tavecchio to hold an event to raise awareness of the issue of racism in Italian football and promote Uefa's initiative aimed at tackling the problem in Europe.  The sanctions have been introduced with immediate effect.  The news comes just a few days after CSKA Moscow were hit with a three-game stadium ban and a fine of €200,000 as a result of racist behaviour and missile-throwing amongst their supporters in the Champions League clash with Roma. Dnipro and FK Partizan have also been handed sanctions for similar offences.  Uefa introduced tougher measures against racism offences in June 2013 in an effort to reduce the problem in European football.

DAVID DE GEA:I ALMOST QUIT MANCHESTER UNITED

David de Gea has hinted that he considering quitting Manchester United after a "difficult" first season.  De Gea was scrutinised during his debut season, having arrived from Atletico Madrid as a £17.8 million replacement for Edwin van der Sar in 2011, and eventually lost his place in the starting line-up.  The goalkeeper, who was named United's Player of the Year last term and produced a man-of-the-match display during the 2-1 win over Everton on Sunday, was asked if he had thought about a move away from Old Trafford in the harder moments: "Sometimes. It was difficult when you get a lot of criticism like I did," he replied. "But I kept strong and I always tried to remain positive.  "I loved training. It was a great pleasure, so I just did my work and worked through it. Those early days were difficult for me and my family. But when you play for a big club like Manchester United it is normal.  "I am glad it happened in some ways because the criticism makes you stronger. A goalkeeper is a difficult position and you make mistakes. But you have to be strong in your mind to get through it all and get better."

DAVID VILLA ALMOST COMPLETE MELBOURNE CITY MOVE

Villa: I'm ready for A-League adventure

David Villa insists that he is completely ready to make his A-League bow with Melbourne City after training with his new club for the first time on Monday.  The Atletico Madrid star left the Spanish capital in the summer and has not featured since his country's final World Cup match.  However, he says he will be prepared to feature against Sydney FC on Saturday as he begins his loan spell in Australia following a move to New York City FC, despite his lengthy break over the last few months.  "I feel good, I feel prepared," Villa told reporters.  "I've been working hard. I obviously had a break [after the World Cup], my last game was the Spain-Australia game but then I took the usual summer break that every player takes.  "But I've been working hard and I've been training to be ready and I hope to be ready for the game."  Villa insisted he didn't need to arrive any earlier in Melbourne due to the "constant communication" between all parties involved in the City Football Group, who own Manchester City, New York City and Melbourne City.

5-year-old Gibson play for Utah Jazz

JP Gibson was uncertain when he walked on to the court. The 5-year-old was playing in his first NBA game, so it was understandable.  The Utah Jazz signed JP to a one-day contract Monday and let him play in a team scrimmage at EnergySolutions Arena. He has acute lymphoblastic leukemia. But he loves basketball, and the Jazz decided to do something special for their little fan.
JP loves most sports, but basketball is definitely his favorite,” his mother, Megan Gibson, said. “When he was just over a year old, he would sit with my husband Josh watching games. He started insisting on shooting hoops for an hour each night before bedtime when he was just 15 months old. He knows he has to be six before he can play Junior Jazz, and he reminds us all the time that he can’t wait until he’s six.

He scored 17.9 points per game while mostly coming off the bench, entertaining Lakers fans with his freewheeling style during the club's worst season in a half-century.
